Late Spring in the New Zealand Coastal Forest

The days are lengthening out in the Southern Hemisphere temperatures though are still fluctuating between early spring and summer.

Whau is now flowering, rag like flowers followed by spikey seed pods.

Rewarewa, a tall narrow tree of the protea family is also flowering. Red velvet bottle brush bracts unravel to expose long stamens loaded with nectar at the base. Rewarewa honey is delicious and plentiful.
